Monday Overwhelm

Not sure if I have mentioned this yet but I am currently in the process of working on becoming more routined and making better use of my time so that I can accomplish more.  With that being said, it's Monday.  I actually like Mondays because they are fresh and feel like a new start.  I usually say that I'm going to get back to working out on Mondays, but here I sit, at 11:30 in the morning.  I have wasted the morning away looking at blogs and reading the news and scanning Pinterest.  I have a slight excuse of a mild stomach bug that makes me wish I could just lay here all day, but the truth is, I'm well enough to get up and get moving.

So I was about to, but then the Monday overwhelm hit me... WHERE DO I START?  So much to do: housecleaning, menu planning, grocery shopping, school lessons with my kids and much much more.  I have 11 hours to accomplish all this today, despite all the time I have already wasted.  As you can see.... the list of to do's is not at all exciting though, and so procrastination sets in.  I'm not going to let it win.  I really do hate the drudgery of these necessary things, but I need to get up and just do it.  The goal today is to get the house nice and clean and make a HEALTHY menu for the week and get the shopping done.  I'd also like to look at the budget if I'm feeling adventurous but let's not get too crazy!

I'll be back later with how it went.

Experimental Garden

For the last few years I tried to do container gardening and every year I swore, "Next year I'm going to start a real garden."

I really had good intentions but the fear of not really knowing what I was doing held me back.

This spring, I went to the local nursery and bought the usual herbs and tomatoes and the kids threw in a couple extras, cucumbers, zucchini, watermelon, broccoli, kale and strawberries.

In addition to those, I also ran into a friend whose family owns a nursery.  She told me she had a lot of veggie plants that didn't sell and she was going to end up throwing a lot of them out and that I was free to stop by and take whatever I wanted.  I ended up with about 3 flats of various peppers and tomatoes that I had never heard of, but they were free, so why not!

When hubby saw all these plants, I guess it was enough to motivate him to pull out the rototiller and  plot out some space and plant my veggies for me.  It looks good but of course, we still have no idea what we are doing.

Here's a few things I need to research regarding my garden:

  • You can water religiously, but nothing beats a good old fashioned thunder storm to make those babies really grow!

I guess I never knew this but someone told me that lightening actually helps fertilize soil. I want to know if this is true

  • It's obvious when tomatoes and peppers are ready, but how do I know when it's time to harvest the onions and broccoli?

Well, that's about all I can think of now. I am off to research and I'll be back with some answers.

About

Yesterday my friend Molly and I were talking about blogging and I told her I really want to start a blog but that I have no real focus because I have so many interests and things I would enjoy writing about.  She suggested I just go ahead and start a blog.  I thought about it a lot last night and today I got motivated to start one.   I know I'm not the only girl out there whose interests are vast and many and so I thought maybe blog could focus on trying to learn how to fit all these things in to a busy woman's life.

I could list all the interests here but I'm not going to.  I'm just going to get started.
